Sea Monkeys

The most famous ads of all are probably the ads for Sea Monkeys. According to the picture, they lived in a little kingdom under the sea and they had little families and everything. They were just horribly deformed (yet cute) people that lived in jar. Cool.

As we all know now, they are just little shrimp dudes that swim around in circles all day long. sigh.

They must have taken some heat for their ads because here we see an attempt to show them as they really are.

"Nah, they couldn't really be like that, like little bugs. Look at the picture, they're smiling and playing leapfrog!"

And so despite their half-hearted attempts to educate kids about what they really were, we still wanted to believe. At least I did.

But now I'm happy to report that I've accepted Sea Monkeys for what they are and in fact, I have a little tank of them on my desk right now. They are almost a year old and that is about 11 months longer than they ever survived when I was a kid.
